- Irish marriage licences: William Keating and Elizabeth Barrett 1677
- TO BE CHECKED: Why a connection with Cheshire (William and Elizabeth's son Nicholas leaving the Butterbache lands in Cheshire under his will)?
Elizabeth's sister Lucy Barrett married John Allenson of Cheshire in 24 Sep 1672 at St. Peter's, Chester, Cheshire, England.
We also have the following entry in the same year 1677 as William Keating and Elizabeth Barrett married - and again, in Dublin:
Keating Wm aty [attorney] of Dublin, Gent., and - Winstanley, parish of St Michan, widow, June 16th 1677.
This cannot be William who married Elizabeth Barrett so was William the attorney who married Elizabeth Barrett the son of another William Keating, attorney of Dublin??? A possibility. The widow Winstanley of Dublin looks likely to be the mother of Dublin attorney Richard Winstanley whose son John Winstanley published poems in 1742 to which William Keating's and Elizabeth Barrett's sons Nicholas and William were subscribers. Perhaps co-incidentally, Winstanley appears to be a Cheshire/Lancashire name.
Another question: As William and Elizabeth married in 1677, there is a gap before we have the first recorded child baptised in Dublin - Richard, in 1685.
Too many questions and not enough answers!
