In the will made by Hercules he left all property to his brother William Loveden]
Occupation: | 21 Jul 1587 | Clerk of the Kitchen to the Earl of Leicester ![]() |
Hercules was listed as one of the 27 [!] Clerks of the Kitchen to Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester (favourite of Queen Elizabeth I). Hercules' brother John Loveden had for a stepfather-in-law Richard Browne who was at the time the head of Leicester's household as Steward. Hercules' name appears in the household roll of this date as taking the oath of allegiance to the Earl of Leicester and Queen Elizabeth I. The Clerks of the Kitchen appear to have been responsible for all provisioning of food etc. Did Richard Browne perhaps obtain the position for Hercules Loveden?
